I have always been a synthesizer of ideas or concepts. Of course I am aware of the risks involved, because when you mix water with wine, it no longer has the freshness of water or the flavor of wine. The same thing happens with ideas, synthesizing concepts is a methodological risk, as it can lose the essence.
But, we live in a time of so much news, so many ideas in this great transformation, that our daily complexity has increased a lot and the solution is to simplify, with the risk of becoming simplistic and without the flavor of both parties.
Alvin Tofler said 30 years ago, in his book “The Third Wave” that the manager's problem would be the increase in complexity.
As a curious manager, I have summarized what I understand to be the main lines of conduct and evolution for the 100st century, we will call them the ethics of the century. But I'll just mention it and I don't want to set myself as an example, because I still have a long way to go to fulfill them XNUMX%.
– ADDED VALUE ETHICS. I mean, whether you are in a group of friends, a family, a company or a country, the theme is the same.
You must add value to your surroundings and not just take value from them in exchange for services or products. Those who do not add value will be separated from the group. If people think you are always asking, getting more than you deliver, or profiting from others and don't add value that is perceived by those around you, you will be excluded. The rules of the 10 religious Commandments are just the basics for this more evolved society. Simply complying with the law does not solve the problem either, as the law is the basic ethics of society. If you want to evolve, you have to do more than that. Providing added value to your surroundings with your product or service is not just a duty, it is an intelligent strategy to last in the long term.
– TRANSPARENCY. This is already happening, with the invasion of our daily lives by the media, smartphones who listen to us, even in stand-by, of all the exposure that we voluntarily, or not, make on social media. But, that's not what I'm referring to, if you're hiding something because you can't show it to others, you're not complying with the transparency rule. If you are afraid of your truth coming out, it is because you are not being transparent enough. This acts as a conscience, a self-censorship that leads us to open up more each day. Society as a whole is moving towards more transparency and this century will be different for that reason.
- EMPATHY. The principle of Empathy tells us that we have to put ourselves in the other person's shoes. In moments of so many manifest inequalities, it is necessary to have Empathy and moderate individualistic behaviors, to make collective behaviors stand out. We are not just talking about improving tolerance, but having active attitudes of integration. The same concept applies to people as it does to organizations and our surroundings. This covers the topic of Global Warming, Ecology and the behavior of large or small corporations that have a responsibility on this topic.
When choosing where to stay, Vso Aaggregated, Ttransparency and Empathy can apply to our private life, both in our group, our company and our country. If you want some memory help, think about VATE = VA + T + E.
The next 10 years, with the entry of new technologies in a more massive form, we, managers, will go through moments of instability and exponential change and we will need some principles, which may seem utopian, but possible, to guide us towards a better society .
