There are countries where most hospitals do not package medications in single-dose form, including Germany. They simply send the medications to the wards and satellite pharmacies in boxes, to be placed in a locked cabinet and then dispensed by a professional.
And what would this process be like in detail?
The professional opens the dispensary/cupboard, looks for the correct box of the medicine among the other 200 varieties, removes the blister from the box, cuts the blister with scissors, then places the cut blister in a container, returns the rest of the blister and the leaflet to the original box and stores it back in the dispensary/cupboard from where it was removed.
How long did this process take? Most likely between 1 and 2 minutes, 1 minute more is lost for each administration compared to using a automatic unitizing machine Opuspac. Like in the machine OPUS 30G which produces single doses of blister tablets and ampoules.

In addition to the economic impact, there is the problem that the pharmacist in charge must control all these doses spread throughout the hospital and with minimal control. How would this control of where each dose is? Probably, the medicine that is missing in a cabinet and that the pharmacy requests to be replaced is in a cabinet on another floor. So, what is the control? How much time is spent on making a routine inventory in each cabinet?
We have one more important reason for unitarization of medicines, as it is the responsibility of the pharmacist responsible for the hospital pharmacy to differentiate medicines to avoid similarity errors. It is well known that there are many medicines with similar appearance, they are called LASA (Lalso Alike anda Sound Alike). Differentiation is an important task, and is achieved through repackaging.

The manual work of unitarization of medicines This is already a major step forward compared to the procedure of sending packages in boxes to each floor in the hospital. However, this manual process is 5 to 7 times slower compared to the one carried out through automation of this process.
It is very convenient to unitize medicines with automatic machines.
